Equality. This is one of AwayTeam’s core values.
We do not discriminate when pooling online workers for our clients. We don’t care what gender you identify with, or whether you have a disability or mental illness. If you have the skills, we will include your CV in our pool of workers that we forward to our clients.
We also believe that Filipinos deserve stable employment as much as anyone else does in the world, despite being born in a developing country .
Why is this so important to us? Well, let me tell you a little story.
There was a little girl who never believed she was good enough. On this little girl’s shoulder was a voice that whispered, “You’re not good enough. No one loves you. You are hopeless.”
At the age of 11, her mother took her to her first weight loss club. There she was told she was and ugly and unacceptable. Her negative voice clapped and shouted, “Yes, that’s exactly who she is!”
Fast forward to the future, after 3 pregnancies, postpartum depression and having a self-destructive nature, the not-so-little girl began to self-harm. She also had thoughts of suicide.
If people have given up on her because of her issues, she will most likely wouldn’t be here today.
That woman is me, Louisa, COO of AwayTeam.
I am determined to let AwayTeam be a place where people will always feel equal and cared for. I will be available to my staff and clients whenever they need a shoulder or support system.
We will put skill set at the utmost priority when we recruit and hire online workers. When my staff suggested that we get a psychiatric evaluation of prospective workers and exclude people with mental health issues, I said that if that were the case, I would need to leave. They laughed, and I knew they said it in jest, but I reminded them that that was true.
I want AwayTeam to be a beautiful ‘Motley Crew’ of highly-skilled, gender-diverse, left-of-center people. I want to break stereotypes and help Australian businesses expand and scale, one worker at a time.
I want AwayTeam to be recognized as a company that advocates equality and fair pay for work; that we provide opportunities to disadvantaged people, to mothers and fathers so they can feed their families. We have big plans underway, such as creating educational pathways for women that lead to online work; and so much more.
We will continue to call out the industry cowboys. And even as we grow I will not let us forget why we began.
