The coming of a new year always brings about a mixed bag of feelings for me. Whenever I get to sit down and reflect on the year that was, I think of not just the good things that happened, but things that could be done better. And this is the beauty that the new year brings to people: new days to live and new chances to start over.
Like many of us who run our own small business or have become entrepreneurs, the new year is a chance to take a good look at what we’ve built so far, assess the weak parts and come up with solutions to fix them. It’s a great opportunity to take the needed steps in order to grow and expand your business, and possibly help more people with your product or service.
Besides that, let me also suggest that we take a look at ourselves as businesspeople. Besides looking into our companies, maybe we should reassess how we’ve been working and if changing that could make a world of a difference.
I’ve seen a common factor in business owners like me after speaking to a number of them over the years. And I’m even guilty of this myself when I first started!
We tend to want to do everything on our own. We want to handle each and every aspect of our business, even if we’re not that good at it (or worse, we have no idea how to do it).
And while that’s admirable, we have to face the fact that there are just some things that we aren’t good at. That doesn’t make us weak or incapable. It makes us human.
Here’s the reality: it is actually counterproductive when we take charge of all the tasks, processes and deliverables on our own. It also becomes expensive in the long run, and you’re actually spending more money than saving it!
Imagine your hourly rate, which is probably high as you’re a top-level executive already, and multiply that by the number of hours you do repetitive, time-consuming menial tasks on a day-to-day basis. Then, add that to the cost of you having to undergo training for some of these admin tasks that you are not skilled at.
Working smart is accepting that there are some things that you are not very good at, and that there are other skilled professionals who can do the job for you. It takes off that extra burden off your shoulders and refocuses your energy and efforts towards things that you are actually good at!
It is a necessary investment, but it is one that’s worth it in the long run. The returns that you can enjoy definitely outweigh the possible initial struggle, especially for small businesses or startups.
If hiring traditional office-based workers is out of the question and may deplete your funds, then let me again suggest an alternative that could just be perfect for your business. It’s a revolutionary way of employment, something that I have been doing for years and what my own company has been advocating.
How about hiring online workers? They are skilled professionals who can not only take on admin tasks, but content and web development projects as well. While they work on making sure your business is running smoothly, you can go ahead and take on projects that can help you reach greater heights.
Star working smarter in 2018 because it’s not enough to just work hard. Work smart with an online team.
